The Music programmes are based around key skill areas, repeated each year but increasing in difficulty as students develop. The key skill areas are Aural (Listening/ Playback), Performance (Solo and Group), Composition (Song and Instrumental/ Recording and Computer based), Musical Knowledge (Historical and Modern/ Instruments to vocal). Opportunities are given to students to perform in and around the greater community. Students are also encouraged to enter their music into competitions and use their own music to support other arts media.

There is an emphasis on students' developing the 21st Century learner skills of Thinking Critically, Developing Creativity, Working Collaboratively, Communicating Clearly, Embracing Culture and Utilising Connectivity. Students select their own course from the standards offered through discussion as a class and an interview with the teacher so a project based learning environment can be established.
